Based on common design elements employed on other consoles supplied to the Astute programme, the Sonar 2076 operator console was designed and manufactured for Thales Underwater Systems (TUS). The console consists of 2 off 18” ruggedised LCD monitors, PCI processor fitted with COTS processor, network and graphics cards and a bespoke audio interface designed and built to TUS requirements. The console operates as an X-terminal and utilises the LINUX operating system.

Ultra has designed the console to meet TUS specific requirements for layout which include screen angles and heights and desk height.

The is an example of how Ultra can adapt existing designs to meet specific requirements, maximise the use of COTS components and also include bespoke engineering as required.

This console design has successfully passed design proving trials that include shock, vibration and EMC performance testing relevant to the UK submarine compartment environment.

The console is designed to be capable of back fitting on to the Trafalgar Class platform if required.
