Based on common design elements employed on other consoles supplied to the Astute programme, the Astute Combat Management System Console was designed and manufactured for AMS. The console consists of 2 off 18” ruggedised LCD monitors, VME processor chassis fitted with COTS processor, network and graphics cards and chilled water unit. It was supplied as part of a total hardware package for the ACMS which included system processing cabinets.

Ultra has designed the console to meet AMS specific requirements for layout which include screen angles and heights and desk height. In particular, the overall height of the console was limited by compartment curvature.

The is an example of how Ultra can adapt existing designs to meet specific requirements, maximise the use of COTS components and also include bespoke engineering as required.

This console design has successfully passed design proving trials that include shock, vibration and EMC performance testing relevant to the UK submarine compartment environment.

Ultra also supplied the Sonar 2076 and Optronics Consoles on the Astute Platform.
