NITEworks (Network Integration Test and Experimentation Works) is an
experimental environment that allows the UK Ministry of Defence to assess
the benefits of Network Enabled Capability (NEC) and the options for its
effective and timely delivery.
Ultra Electronics Command and Control Systems, as an associate member
of NITEworks, supported the Indirect Fire Integration theme, carried out
in September 2004, by fully integrating the Olympus
Planning System into the experiment.
This Theme seeks to identify pragmatic improvements to Equipment, Concepts
& Doctrine and Structures could be made in order to maximise performance
of the Indirect Fire System with the introduction of extended range precision
attack capability within the Land Component Commander's Volume of Operations
in the 2006-12 timeframe.
The Olympus Planning System enabled users to manage the airspace by developing
and publishing ACOs, as well as viewing real-time entity movement both
on the ground and in the air, and pull together all overlays drawn on
the other systems within the experiment, to enable briefings to be held
around the Electronic Birdtable.
